Ramie
Ramie
or China Grass is a bast fiber. It is cultivated in the East Indies, Japan,
China, India,
Philippines, Russia,
Latin America and Florida. The plant is of the non tinging nettle and grows
up to eight feet.
Ramie is naturally white and has a high luster. Once the fiber has been
separated
it can be processed
just like flax. The fiber is very fine and soft and should be considered
a very
fine linen.
Ramie
is highly absorbent and dyes very well. It can be spun like flax or can
be blended with
wool. Being a very
strong fiber the end uses are unlimited.
